Fix-by-voice: when the scan is wrong, just say so
Photo scanning is fast, but no food AI is right every time — and the usual remedy is tapping through edit screens. BodyDex's answer is different: talk to the result.
Say the correction in plain English
“That's diet soda, not regular.” “It was two slices, not one.” “Grilled, not fried.” “There's no dressing on the salad.” You describe the problem the way you'd tell a person.
It re-analyzes with your photo, not just your words
The correction goes back to the AI together with the original result and the same photo it analyzed the first time, so “the portion is smaller than that” actually means something. The corrected result replaces the old one in place.
You see exactly what changed
Rows the fix touched light up when the corrected result lands, and the calorie total animates to its new value. A fix can rename items, resize portions, and add or remove items — nothing changes silently.
Undo is one tap away
After a voice fix lands, an “Undo fix” pill hangs around for a few seconds. Tap it and the previous result is restored exactly as it was.
Typing still works too
Prefer to type? The “Fix an item” option takes the same kind of plain-English correction as text. Voice fixes are capped at a few per scan since each re-analysis is a full AI call.
How voice food logging works
1Open Voice from the log menu
Tap the plus button on the tab bar and choose Voice. It sits alongside Search and Scan as a first-class way to log.
2Speak your meal naturally
“Two scrambled eggs, a slice of sourdough toast with butter, and a black coffee.” Talk the way you'd describe the meal to a friend — no fixed phrases to memorize. A live transcript shows what was heard; tap stop when you're done (the session also times out after a couple of minutes without speech).
3BodyDex transcribes and parses
A short audio clip is transcribed server-side (your device's own transcript is the fallback), then AI splits the sentence into food items with portions. Nutrition comes from a food database where an item matches, and is estimated where it doesn't.
4Review every item
The results screen lists each detected food with its portion and macros. Pick the meal, override it per item (“the salad was dinner, the chips were a snack”), edit quantities in grams or servings, remove anything it misheard, or drill into an item's full details.
5Log it in one tap
Nothing is saved while you speak. When the list looks right, one tap logs the batch to your food diary and your daily totals update.
Voice dose logging: spoken, then confirmed
BodyDex also tracks supplements and medications, and the same mic handles doses — with much stricter rules than food, on purpose.
It only recognizes what you already track
The dose grammar is deliberately narrow: it matches against the names of supplements and medications you've configured in BodyDex. Speech about anything else routes to food logging or to the manual form — it never guesses at a medication.
The dose on screen comes from your plan, not the mic
The confirmation sheet shows the dose from your own configured schedule, read live from your data. A transcription can garble a number; your saved plan can't.
A different spoken amount needs an explicit choice
If the amount you said differs from your configured dose, both are shown side by side and you pick which to log — your configured dose is the default. Nothing is substituted for you.
Anything unusual drops to the manual form
Multiple meds in one sentence, mixed food-and-dose phrases, ranges, self-corrections — anything outside the safe grammar opens the regular dose form instead, with your words shown as “You said …” so nothing is lost and no value is guessed.
You review everything before it saves
Voice input is a transcription plus an AI interpretation, which means it produces estimates — good ones, but estimates. So every voice path in BodyDex ends the same way: a review you control. Spoken meals land on an editable results screen, spoken corrections show you exactly which rows changed and offer an undo, and spoken doses stop at a confirmation sheet. Nothing is written to your log while you're still talking.
On privacy: voice features send a short audio clip to our servers for transcription, and the audio is not retained after processing — your device's own transcript is the fallback when the server can't be reached. Almost, and we'd rather be precise than oversell: you tap the mic once to start a voice log, speak, and tap stop when you're done (it also times out after a stretch without speech) — no typing anywhere in the flow. Fix-by-voice is press-and-hold, like a walkie-talkie. Every path ends with a review tap, because nothing should enter your log without you seeing it first.
What happens to my voice audio?
A short clip (up to about 25 seconds) is sent to our servers, transcribed to text, and not retained after processing; your device's own transcript is used as a fallback. Can I log medication or supplement doses by voice?
Yes — say the name of something you already track and the amount, and a confirmation sheet opens. The sheet shows the dose from your own configured plan; if what you said differs, both are shown and you choose. Nothing is ever written without an explicit Confirm tap, and BodyDex never invents a dose from speech.
